Biodiversity Net Gain

Invest in genuine biodiversity recovery.

We are rebuilding nature across the UK, delivering landscape-scale restoration that goes far beyond mitigation.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) allows nature restoration to be funded by development. Our units make that possible through large-scale habitat restoration you can see, measure and trust.

What is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)?

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a world-leading approach to nature restoration in England, requiring development to leave biodiversity in a measurably better state than before. While it is now a legal requirement, BNG is far more than compliance. It is a transformative model that unlocks private investment into large-scale habitat restoration, helping to reverse biodiversity loss across the UK.

BNG is built on measurable improvement. Before development begins, the biodiversity value of a site is assessed using the government’s biodiversity metric. Developers must then achieve a minimum 10% biodiversity uplift, secured for at least 30 years. This requirement shifts biodiversity from a mitigation exercise to a clear, accountable commitment to long-term nature recovery.

Each BNG unit represents that uplift—a verified increase in biodiversity delivered through habitat creation or enhancement.

At Oxygen Conservation, we deliver BNG differently. By restoring entire estates we own and manage, we create landscape-scale habitat banks that go beyond fragmented, small-scale interventions—delivering lasting, high-integrity outcomes for nature.

Our Approach

At Oxygen Conservation, our approach is built on delivering real, lasting change at scale. By restoring entire estates we own and manage, we create high-integrity habitat banks where every unit is backed by visible, measurable outcomes on the ground.

This ownership model gives us full control over delivery—ensuring ecological integrity, long-term stewardship, and complete accountability from design through to monitoring. Developers and planners can be confident that biodiversity gains are not only policy-compliant, but genuinely delivered and sustained over time.

Each BNG unit reflects this approach. Rather than being generic, every unit is linked to a specific habitat type, location, and ecological outcome. Whether it’s wetland restoration, woodland creation, or species-rich grassland, the value of each unit is shaped by habitat complexity, condition, and its role within the wider landscape.

We believe Biodiversity Net Gain should be simple, transparent, and effective—connecting development directly to large-scale ecosystem restoration and creating a future where nature recovery is built into every project.

Our Habitat Banks

Our habitat banks span the breadth of the UK generating over 3,000 off-site BNG units available in Cornwall, Devon and Norfolk.
